Custom Lighting

Custom Lighting Installation in Jacksonville, FL

Recessed lighting, under-cabinet strips, landscape lighting and fixtures where there was never a box. New circuits run properly, switched where you actually want the switch.

Most Lighting Work Is Really Wiring Work

Hanging a fixture where a box already exists is a job for a Saturday. Putting light where there is none is different: it needs a circuit, a box rated to carry the weight, a switch loop to somewhere sensible, and a route through a ceiling without tearing it open.

That is the part I do. Older Jacksonville homes make it more interesting again, because many were built with too few circuits and no neutral at the switch, which is exactly what modern dimmers and smart switches need.

What People Ask For

A dark room with one ceiling light

Usually solved with recessed lighting on a dimmer, not a bigger bulb

Kitchen counters in shadow

Under-cabinet lighting, wired in rather than stuck on with adhesive

A fixture with no box above it

A new location needs a proper rated box and a circuit to reach it

Smart switch that will not work

Older homes often have no neutral at the switch; that is fixable

Dimmers that buzz or flicker

Usually the wrong dimmer for the LED load rather than a faulty light

A dark yard or driveway

Landscape and security lighting on its own switched, weatherproof circuit

What I Install

Recessed Lighting

Laid out for even light rather than guesswork, cut in cleanly, and put on a dimmer that actually suits the fixtures.

Under-Cabinet and Task Lighting

Hard-wired kitchen and workspace lighting, switched properly, with no visible cords or plug packs.

Fixtures, Chandeliers and Ceiling Fans

Including new locations with no existing box, and heavy fixtures needing a fan-rated or brace-mounted box.

Landscape and Exterior Lighting

Weatherproof exterior circuits for paths, trees, driveways and security lighting, on timers or photocells.

Dimmers and Smart Switches

Matched to your LED load, including running a neutral where an older switch box has none.

New Switched Circuits

When the room needs more than the existing circuit can carry, or the switch is in the wrong place entirely.

How It Works

1

Walk the Room

We look at the space together and work out what you want lit and how you want to control it.

2

Layout and Load

I plan the positions and check the circuit can carry it, so nothing gets added to an already full breaker.

3

Permit Where Required

New circuits are permitted work in Jacksonville. Swapping a fixture on an existing circuit is not. I will tell you which yours is, and a permit is pulled by a licensed contractor.

4

Installation

Fixtures and boxes fitted, wiring routed with minimal disruption to ceilings and walls.

5

Set the Levels

Dimmers adjusted and timers set with you there, so it is how you want it before I leave.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many recessed lights does a room need?
It depends on ceiling height, room size and how you use the space, rather than a fixed rule. Too few leaves dark corners and too many makes a room feel like an office. I lay it out with you at the estimate so you can see the plan before anything is cut.
Can you add a light where there is no fixture now?
Yes. That is the common request. It needs a properly rated box, a circuit that can carry it, and a switch loop back to wherever you want the switch. In most homes this is done with minimal cutting; I will tell you honestly what access the ceiling allows before we start.
Why do my LED lights buzz or flicker on a dimmer?
Nearly always the dimmer rather than the lights. Older dimmers were designed for incandescent bulbs and do not handle the much smaller load of LEDs well. Fitting an LED-compatible dimmer rated for your fixtures usually resolves it completely.
My smart switch says it needs a neutral wire. Can you fix that?
Yes. Many older Jacksonville homes were wired with only a switch loop, so there is no neutral in the switch box, which most smart switches require. I can run a neutral to the box or fit a switch designed to work without one, depending on what the wall allows.
Do I need a permit for lighting work in Jacksonville?
Replacing a fixture on an existing circuit does not need one. Adding new circuits or new lighting locations generally does, in Jacksonville and Duval County. I will tell you which category your job falls into at the estimate, and where a permit is needed it is arranged with a licensed contractor who pulls it.
Do you install outdoor and landscape lighting?
Yes, including path and tree lighting, driveway and security lighting, and the weatherproof exterior circuits they run on, with timers or photocells so they look after themselves.
